Free video hosting without the fine print

Compare with Premium

Most free video hosts cap you at a gigabyte of storage, a couple of uploads a month or a player covered in someone else's ads. Banned.Video is built the other way round: large files are the normal case. Every upload is encoded into an adaptive ladder, so the same video plays smoothly on a phone on a train and on a 4K television, and every public video comes with an embed code that works on any website.

You keep control of who sees what. Each video can be public, unlisted or private, comments and embedding can be switched off, and nothing you upload is reused for advertising. The limits below are the actual limits, not a teaser.

Upload, edit and share in three steps

Upload help
  1. Upload a large video

Drop a file of up to 4 GB on the upload page, import it from a link, or generate one with Higgsfield. The transfer resumes by itself if your connection drops, and a watchable version is ready within about a minute.

  2. Edit it if you want to

Editing is optional. The browser editor trims and joins clips, adds titles, logos, music and transitions on several tracks, and writes captions from the speech. Anything 3 minutes or shorter becomes a Short.

  3. Share, embed and track

Send the link, paste the embed code into your site, or let people find it on your channel. Analytics show views and watch time by day and by hour, so you can see exactly when your audience arrives.

How Banned.Video handles your video

Streaming explained
  1. Resumable upload

Your browser sends the file in chunks over the tus protocol. Lose the connection and the upload picks up where it stopped.

  2. Encoding ladder

FFmpeg workers transcode every rendition from 144p up to the source resolution. Nothing is upscaled; 1440p and 4K are reserved for Premium viewers.

  3. Adaptive delivery

Segments are pushed to object storage behind a CDN. The player measures bandwidth and switches quality without a stall.

What is video hosting, and how does it work?

A plain-English tour of what a video host does with your file after upload. It also shows the point where a video tag on your own server stops being enough.

How to upload 2 GB video files reliably

Large uploads fail for boring reasons: a sleeping laptop, a flaky Wi-Fi hop, a file that was never going to be accepted. Here is how to get a big file up in one go, and what to do when it stops.

Video hosting questions

Help centre
Is Banned.Video really free for hosting video?

Yes. A free account can upload 10 videos a day, each up to 4 GB, and every upload is encoded, streamed and embeddable at no cost. Premium ($9.99 for 30 days, paid from creator earnings) raises the allowance to 100 uploads a day and unlocks 1440p and 4K playback.

What is the largest video file I can upload?

4 GB per file on every plan. Uploads are resumable, so a dropped connection continues from the last byte instead of starting again.

Which video formats does Banned.Video accept?

MP4, MKV, AVI, MOV, WebM, M4V, MPG, MPEG, WMV, FLV, TS and 3GP. Every file is re-encoded for streaming, so the container you start with does not affect playback.

Can I embed Banned.Video videos on my own website?

Yes. Every public video has an iframe embed and oEmbed support, so pasting a link into WordPress, Notion or Slack turns it into a player. You can switch embedding off per video.

Does Banned.Video stream in 4K?

Videos are encoded into every quality from 144p up to the source resolution, including 1440p and 2160p (4K). Free viewers watch up to 1080p; Premium members watch in 1440p and 4K.

Can I edit my video after uploading?

Yes. The browser editor trims, splits and joins clips, adds text, images, music and transitions on multiple tracks, and writes captions automatically. Free accounts can save 10 edits a day as new videos, Premium 100.

Can I make money from my videos?

Viewers can tip, and 90% of each tip goes to you. Channels in the Creator Program also share a monthly pool. Payouts start at $50, or you can spend your earnings on Premium.

What kind of videos are allowed?

Your own work, or work you have the rights to share, made so anyone can watch it. Banned.Video does not allow 18+ content: no nudity, sexual content or graphic violence. The community guidelines list every rule.

Who can see my videos?

You choose per video: public (listed and searchable), unlisted (anyone with the link) or private (only you). You can also turn comments and embedding on or off.
